Design of efficient balanced codes with minimum distance 4

A new construction of balanced codes with minimum distance 4 is presented. The idea is to add constant-weight redundant bits with minimum distance 4 to the modified information bits by using Knuth's method (1986). It is shown that the construction improves the information rates of previously known constructions. The improvement to the proposed code is also discussed.
