HAUSDORFF DIMENSIONAL ANALYSIS AND DIGITAL IMAGING BASED QUALITY INSPECTION

K. Liao, Ralph P. Cavalieri, Mike Pitts · Transactions of the ASAE · 1990

ABSTRACT Fractal (non-integer) dimensionality, as defined by Mandelbrot, is discussed. The more general Hausdorff dimension is used to describe, by a single parameter, the character of a complex curve or of a surface. The utility of Hausdorff dimensional analysis for characterization of fruit surfaces is explored. The technique is effective when using gray-level images and two dimensional discrete Fourier transforms, with the Hausdorff dimension being sensitive to the characteristics of the surface represented by the digitized image.
