Variable turns ratio inductance transducer for measurement of translational displacement

A simple linear-displacement transducer is described, which operates on the principle of changing the turns ratio of an air core transformer. The transducer measures displacements from 0 to 1 m with a linearity of better than 1% and a repeatability of better than 0.1%.
