Detection of the extreme points of closed contours

All 2-D shapes can be described in terms of a contour. A contour analysis procedure is described that identifies the points of local maximum convex and concave curvature on a given contour. These points are useful features of the contour and form the basis for generating a structural description of the underlying shape.
