A 3D finite-element method (FEM) of the body of a classical guitar

A 3D finite-element method (FEM) of a body of a classical guitar is performed. It consists of the rib, back plate, top plate with bridge, soundhole and fan bracing, and wooden block. The idea of this project is to compare the eigenfrequencies of different body shapes and make assumptions about the way the elements of the body influence the sound of a classic guitar. The aim is to calculate the influence of the thickness of the bottom, the amount of bracing, and the appearance of the block. As a submittal a real guitar was taken and the geometrical pararmeters are precisesly modeled in the computer. These solutions are found by using the finite-element method, which allows calculation of the different eigenfrequencies and mode shapes of the guitar body.
