An Approach to the Support of Software Evolution

This paper describes a system which provides the user with a powerful tool to aid system understanding and supports automatic building of software systems from the language description. It is based on a language for describing software system structure in terms of its components. The system is part of the Eclipse integrated project support environment and comprises the following; a language for describing system structure, a viewing system providing a facility of examine language scripts in a structured way, a version handling system and a system building facility. The principal novel characteristic of the SySL system is that target are build from a logical rather than a physical structure description.
