Using Direct Linking Capabilities in Aggregated Databases for E-Reserves
David Bickford · Journal of Library Administration · 2004
Libraries looking to realize the full value of their electronic resource purchases have the opportunity to link directly to content within aggregated databases. An examination of direct linking tools provided by four major aggregators show a varied landscape of features and capabilities. Despite differences from one platform to another, direct linking has become an important feature for database subscribers and is becoming a more straightforward process. In light of advances in direct linking technology, libraries should compare the costs and benefits of direct linking in comparison to traditional e-reserve methods based on securing permissions and scanning hard copy.
