On Fitting Exponentials by Nonlinear Least Squares
J. M. Varah · SIAM Journal on Scientific and Statistical Computing · 1985
This paper is concerned with the problem of fitting discrete data or a continuous function by least squares using exponential functions. We examine the questions of uniqueness and sensitivity of the best least squares solution, and provide analytic and numerical examples showing the possible nonuniqueness and extreme sensitivity of these solutions.
