Programming Language Standards From A User's Point Of View (Panel Discussion)

Paul Abraham, Paul Stylos, David Reese, P. E. Hagerty, Don Dudley · 1978

Although ACM and NCC sessions have reviewed programming language standards many times in the past years, the emphasis has been mainly on the processes of standards development, as a tutorial on an up-coming standard, or on the validation procedures for implementation. This panel consists of a number of implementers who have not been involved in the standards development process but who are attempting to produce processors which conform to either a National standard (such as PL/I) or a defacto standard (such as PASCAL). Three major questions are of concern - was the standard of assistance to you in the implementation process; in what way did it fall short of your expectations; and did the standard inhibit you in any way?
