On “Fortran reliability” (editorial)

Gerald M Berns, in his letter that was published in Fortran Forum, March 1985, brought up the subject of "Fortran reliability" -- more specifically, the question of whether protective features should be incorporated in Fortran compilers, or in the Fortran language standard, that would make it easier for programmers to write reliable programs.
