Angle of Arrival Estimation for Non-Circular Signals
Amjad Salameh, Nizar Tayem · 2006
A new algorithm is introduced in this paper that estimates one dimension direction of arrivals utilizing coherent and noncoherent non-circular sources. Examples of such sources are binary shift keying (BPSK) and M-ary amplitude shift keying (MASK). This algorithm presents several advantages over the classical subspace algorithms such as Root MUSIC and forward/backward smoothing by Pillai et al. The two major advantages are that the proposed method does not require forward/backward spatial smoothing for the covariance matrix, hence decreasing the computational load and time. In addition to this, Pillai method can only detect 2N/3 coherent sources whereas our method can detect N-l sources where N is the number of antennas used. These advantages lead to more accurate estimation as well as better performance when compared to the conventional root MUSIC and the Pillai method.
