Trap-decoding algorithm for burst-error-correcting of Reed-Solomon codes

Based on the properties of cyclic codes, a new trap-decoding algorithm for Reed-Solomon (RS) codes is presented in this paper. This algorithm is theoretically proven to be able to correct burst errors with length approaching to n - k symbols with a very small miscorrection probability. By Comparison, we will further show that the complexity of the proposed algorithm is fairly lower, and the decoding delay is much less than those of existing burst-error-correcting algorithms.
