Precise wideband Gaussian noise sources using JN FET amplifiers and resistor noise

Gaussian noise sources with spectra extending from DC to the megahertz region can be designed by utilizing resistance noise and the very low noise properties of JN FET. By frequency changing the noise output of a medium frequency JN FET amplifier it is possible to obtain a spectrum which extends down to DC essentially. An instrument using these principles has been constructed and has shown that it is feasible to achieve a source of noise which is uniform and of known spectral density over eight decades of frequency with an accuracy of 0.2 dB.
