String mechanics based on 2-forms

Nambu invented a mechanics for strings by replacing the fundamental 1-form pidqi−H dt of Hamiltonian mechanics by a certain 2-form. We study the mechanics corresponding to a more general 2-form applicable to weighted strings. Our equations of motion are fully deterministic, unlike those of Nambu, which need a supplementary condition. We set up a Hamilton–Jacobi formalism closely paralleling ordinary mechanics.
