Treatment and Survival in Breast Cancer: A Review of Results
David L. Benninghoff, K. C. Tsien · British Journal of Radiology · 1959
The absolute five-year survival rates for breast cancer at different treatment centres throughout the world have been collected. The percentage survival in each series was plotted against the percentage of early cases in each series. A close linear relationship between survival and percentage early cases has been demonstrated. The treatment policies of the different centres were outlined and considered to be of the same order of effectiveness. The regression line of Fig. 1 indicates the expected survival obtained by current treatment methods for groups of patients containing a variable percentage of early cases.
