Anti-distortion mountings for instruments and apparatus I have read with interest the paper by Professor Jones (1961) on Anti-distortion mountings for instrummts and apparatus, in which he discusses the principles of flexible mountings to isolate apparatus or components from distortion (rather than from -vibration).I would like briefly to draw attention to a paper dealing specfically with the problem of mounting optical components h l y but with freedom from distortion (Spring 1958).This describes, inter alia, the bonding of mirrors to metal plates using three-point, or line-and-point, contacts. The flexible mounts were either pads of synthetic rubber bonded with one of the 'Araldite' range of resins, or such resins suitably 'loaded' to make them resilient. These and similar techniques are simple to use, give very satisfactory results and are widely adaptable for other uses.
