Kartik Audhkhasi · IETE Technical Review · 2009
AbstractThis paper introduces the problem of automatic evaluation of spoken language fluency, and reviews some techniques proposed in the literature to solve it. In the first section, the need for automatically evaluating human spoken language skills is motivated through real life scenarios ranging from call centers to kindergarten classes. This is followed by a definition of the problem. Next, some important works in the domain are presented. Definitions of various relevant terms from speech and language processing subjects are intertwined in the paper to aid the uninitiated reader. This paper concludes by discussing the research challenges in the area.
