Bidirectional Signal Transmission Circuit Using Single Electron Tunneling Junctions

Kouichirou Yamamura, Yoshiyuki Suda · Japanese Journal of Applied Physics · 1999

We propose a novel bidirectional signal transmission circuit consisting of capacitors and single-electron tunneling junctions. The characteristics of this circuit are that the signal transmission behavior is active and it transmits a signal without any transmission loss, in principle. Using the Monte Carlo simulation, we demonstrate that the circuit functions as a bidirectional signal transmission circuit and is also capable of signal transmission branching. Since this circuit has a simple configuration with the fan-out being easily increased and the transmission direction being easily controlled, the circuit is expected to be widely applied to single-electron integrated circuits.
