A GENERAL-PURPOSE PARALLEL SORTING ALGORITHM

A parallel sorting algorithm is presented for general purpose internal sorting on MIMD machines. The algorithm initially sorts the elements within each node using a serial sorting algorithm, then proceeds with a two-phase parallel merge.
