The explicit factorization of two commonly occuring matrices

Tridiagonal and periodic tridiagonal matrices often occur in numerical analysis and frequently in examination questions. Two such matrices are presented here together with their LU factorizations. The constructive proofs of the results are tedious but verification is straightforward.
