The tumour bed effect reflected in the radius of tumour cords

JV Moore · British Journal of Radiology · 1985

There is current interest in the Tumour Bed Effect (TBE), in which the reduction in rate of tumour growth as a consequence of injury to local stroma/vasculature by radiation is measured as a function of radiation dose. Penhaligon and Camplejohn (1984) have advocated the use of morphometric or excisionclonogenicity assays of the ‘amount of viable tissue’ as being a more sensitive measure of TBE than the changes in gross tumour growth rate used by others (e.g. Begg & Denekamp, 1983).
