A 12-transistor c-MOS building-block for reversible computers

Alexis De Vos · International Journal of Electronics · 1995

In the present paper we describe a c-MOS building block for the construction of reversible logic circuits. We demonstrate a prototype realization in standard 2-4μm technology. The cell consists of 12 MOS transistors. This new logic gate is similar but not equal to the notorious Fredkin gate. As any boolean computer can be built from this single building-block, this implies that, in principle, any combinatorial computer can thus be designed. The resulting machine will be able to calculate in both directions, such that input and output are indistinguishable.
