Teaching automata theory with JFLAP
Susan H. Rodger · ACM SIGACT News · 1999
An a u t o m a t a theory course can be taught in an interactive m a n n e r using tools, allowing students to receive immediate feedback. We describe the tool J F L A P [4] and its interactive use in experimenting with automata, grammars, and regular expressions.Special features include building and executing nondeterministic machines and studying the proofs of theorems t h a t focus on conversions of languages from one form to another. We also mention several other tools for increasing the interaction in this course.
