A visual software process language

Terry Shepard, Steve Sibbald, Colin Wortley · Communications of the ACM · 1992

A Visual Software Languageessential element of the nextgeneration Integrated Project Support Environments (IPSEs) is expected to be the ability to create an internal, customized model of the software development process being used, written in a Process Programming Language (PPL).Information from this model would be used by the IPSE to automate some portions of the process, guide others, and remove administrative burden from the users.Any PPL must be flexible to model all potential processes, yet detailed enough to be of real use to the IPSE.Such an IPSE, while supporting initial development, will also be essential for the long-term maintenance of software.
