Abstract This paper improves and evaluates the performance of VISUAL, an environment supporting development of a 3‐D image processing system. A system of manipulating virtual space with VISUAL is developed and the easiness of system development is evaluated and its problems are shown. The concurrent interface with the 3‐D virtual space by two or more operators also is evaluated and it is found that users can develop a system efficiently with VISUAL.
