Design and Implementation of a Keyword-based XML portion Retrieval System using Statistics

An XML portion retrieval system has attracted much attention as a next generation of information retrieval system on the Internet. Especially, a keyword-based XML portion retrieval system is needed by a naive user in a similar way to developing Web search engines considering heterogeneity of XML documents on the Internet. However, we have to determine a retrieval unit of XML documents effectively, which is meaningful for the user in order to construct XML portion retrieval system which can retrieve XML portions related to a keyword-based user’s query. In this paper, we implement a keyword-based XML portion retrieval system which can estimate an adequate unit of XML documents by analyzing their statistics, and report an experimental evaluation of our system using a test collection.
