Failure recovery in FMS using augmented Petri net approach based on weighted sum

Marko Filipović · 2014

Failure recovery in Flexible manufacturing systems is an active field of research. Some recovery strategies and concepts are presented but there is still no exact method and algorithm to apply in a real industrial application. Formal description of possible recovery trajectory types in means of a Petri net construction led research activities in one major field. Previous contribution on an augmented Petri net approach for error recovery illustrates issues of incorporating recovery trajectories into workstation control logic. For better understanding of all existing problems that could lead to a failure in FMS, failure classification is discussed. With fixed design of a workstation layout as a premise, lots of offline simulation data could be acquired with todays modern 3D software support. The focus of this paper is to derive a proper recovery decision to begin a right recovery path. Using an offline coefficient database can help designers to maintain a safe recovery strategy with quality and efficient production aspects covered. A typical workstation, as part of a metal fabrication process, is considered to demonstrate a possible implementation of specific safe and operational recovery.
