Designing Auditory Perspective into Live Musical Presentation
Paul S. Veneklasen · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1959
Musical concert performances can be made more interesting and intelligible for audiences by enhancing auditory perspective. The musical meaning can be dramatized by stage placement of instruments or groups taking cues from the musical or textual context. Often the identity or distinction between voices can be enhanced by special localization or relative liveness. Examples are given from orchestral and oratorio literature.
