A variation on the PDP 11
Hal W. Jennings · ACM SIGARCH Computer Architecture News · 1978
This paper discusses some pros and cons of the very popular mini computer, the PDP 11, and suggests a variation on its architecture. The new architecture evolves through a few phases. The end result is a processer with variable length and width operands. This is particularly useful to support vector oriented languages such as APL.This processor has never been implemented and there are no plans to do so. There would be much more design work to do. It was originally intended to be implementable with a bit sliced microprocessor.
