An integrated information system on the Web for catchment management

K. Taylor, Mark A. Cameron, Jason D. Haines · 1998

This paper describes a Web-based information system with an integrated approach to text and map-based sear & for re-trieval of arbitrary data sets, including scenarios simulated by external modelling systems. Data sets together with descriptive metadata are cataloged and stored through a Web-based data loading tool. Spatial and temporal data is extracted from source data sets and warehoused to permit fitible on-line amlysia. When searching for information, a user cau freely inter-dange between a hypermap based searcih (ii the zoom-pim-po-mt-and-click style) and a conventional text-based meta-data search. Simple GIS functionality offered by the map interface permits rapid identification of interesting objects that vary across modelled scenarios. Empirical and syn-thetic temporal data is analyzed on demand and presented in ways appropriate for the hydrological domain. 1
