So are we going to govern this security business?
Dario Valentino Forte · Network Security · 2009
Budget cuts, financial crises, compliance, and information security are currently at odds with one another in spite of the fact that they are all of equal strategic importance. They are managed in various ways by company functions which do not share the same priorities and budgets. IT security functions, for example, generally demonstrate a tactical commitment to maintaining existing platforms, with some emphasis on ‘emergency’ issues such as data loss prevention. At higher levels, some attention is paid to internal monitoring for prevention of fraud, general company security incidents, and illicit acts, the cost of which is high but justified by the requisites of good governance.
