Calculation of a transition probability in CA II.

Louis C. Green · The Astronomical Journal · 1944

Values of df/de' have been found for transitions from the ground 4s2S state of Ca II to the p2P continuum. Two atomic fields, one a Kramers field,2 the other a Hartree self consistent field with exchange,3 have been used to calculate the wave functions of the continuum by numerical integration. Some discussion of the numerical methods and the normalization of the continuous wave functions is given. Internal agreement suggests confidence in the numerical accuracy of the wave functions. The results are E df/de Hartree field .00 .089 Kramers field .01 .091 Hartree field I. 00 .0004 I.Unsold, Physik der Sternatmospha. ren, p. 128. 2. Zwaan, Utrecht dissertation, 1929. - 3.D. R. and W.
