Inheritance anomaly in CORBA multithreaded environments
Pedro de las Heras Quirs, Jos M. Olmo Milln · Theory and Practice of Object Systems · 1997
The use of multithreaded environments in CORBA presents new challenges. On the one hand, having access to various threads is an advantage, both in usability and efficiency. But problems arise when the increase of concurrency is not correctly managed. Concurrency is not orthogonal to inheritance. The lack of specially designed concurrency control mechanisms makes reusability of code difficult, if not impossible. This problem, known as inheritance anomaly, frequently arises in these environments. That is the case in CORBA environments in use today. Results achieved in the concurrent object oriented languages community can be applied to distributed object oriented environments such as CORBA. We present one of these results adapted to CORBA. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
