Correlates of programmer proficiency

This is a report of progress on a long-term research program devoted to computer personnel selection and evaluation. The overall program is outlined in Exhibit 1. Phase I deals with the job analysis and job description of computer programmer and analyst positions. Phase II deals with the development of proficiency tests for evaluating the effectiveness of programmers and analysts. Phase III deals with the development of selection tests and procedures that will be predictive of success in programming and analysis as measured by the proficiency tests developed in Phase II.
