Technology Alone Can Never Be Enough

IT security managers are under constant bombardment from silver bullets claimed by their proponents to solve all their problems, but they never do. This is because IT security, like any other form of security, will always be a patchwork quilt where the protection is only as good as its weakest stitch. Every time you strengthen one component, the point of greatest weakness is shifted somewhere else, and this is true for all relatively recent innovations, such as PKIs, smartcards, strong encryption algorithms and also biometrics, which is the latest obsession.
