Methods for Evaluating the Loss Factor of Damping Materials and Systems
Fred Schloss · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1962
A direct evaluation of the loss factor of damping materials and systems may be made continuously as a function of frequency by measuring the phase angle of one transfer impedance, i.e., the phase angle between the force at a blocked end and the motion at the driven end. The accuracy is greatest with large damping, thereby complementing other methods. Measurements are presented for several materials and structures over the frequency range 10–1000 cps.
