A VCR for HD-recording according to the D-6 format
W. Schiffler · 1994
At the SMPTE fall conference 1993 in Los Angeles, BTS demonstrated the first prototype of a VCR capable of recording and reproducing HD images from different HD standards with data rates of up to 1.2 Gbit/s. The recording format used for this VCR is currently under study by a SMPTE working group and the workname is D-6. At NAB 1994 in Las Vegas, BTS introduced the first recorder according to the D-6 standard, the DCR 6000, as a product. The use of recorders designed according to the D-6 format is not only limited to the standard video applications. With the applied error correction system the recording format is not relying on concealments and digital video signals are handled as image data. Therefore this recording format is open to future imaging data extensions.
