CALCULUS FROM AN HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE: A COURSE FOR HUMANITIES STUDENTS
Daniel E. Otero · PRIMUS · 1999
A case is made for teaching calculus to humanities students from an historical perspective. It is one that emphasizes the historical narrative by focusing on the genesis of its central ideas, identifying a number of the major players in its development, exploring its impact on the development of science and technology, and investigating its philosophical dimensions. An outline of a curriculum is suggested and the author's experience at teaching such a course is shared.
