Steady Streaming Induced by an Oscillating Flat Plate in a Viscous Fluid
Akira Yoshizawa · Journal of the Physical Society of Japan · 1974
An analysis is made of steady streaming induced by oscillating a semi-infinite flat plate in a viscous fluid, parallel to its length. An asymptotic solution of the Navier-Stokes equations is constructed by means of matched asymptotic expansions, with the Stokes solution for an infinite flat plate as a leading term. The analysis shows that the steady flow toward the leading edge is induced by the displacement effect of a viscous layer and the non-linearity of the Navier-Stokes equations.
