Two module factoring techniques

F.W. Calliss, Barry Cornelius · Journal of Software Maintenance Research and Practice · 1989

Abstract ‘Module factoring’ is the process by which a module can be split into smaller modules each of which performs a distinct task. Two techniques are presented for determining which entities are to be grouped together. The first technique involves analysing a module with respect to its type‐families, while the second technique involves analysing a module's entities with respect to the modules importing the entities. Such techniques have proved useful in the maintenance of large programs.
