Memory Technology and Implantable Holter Systems

A. Ripart, P. Jacobson · Steinkopff eBooks · 1985

Progress made in the field of semiconductor integration has enabled the introduction of a Holter function into pacemakers. Various methods are used for the storage and selection of data. The memories must comply with the specific pacemaker characteristics: low current drain, high capacity, low voltage, high reliability. CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) technology is now used with several circuit configurations. The CMOS circuit memories are directly linked to the silicium lithography and piling methods, which are regularly and rapidly improving. For a given circuit memory, the few seconds of ECG storage available with the technology of 1980 will be increased to several hours by 1990.
