A computer-based multimedia course in speech science is under development. The goal of the course is to provide students with a better understanding of acoustic phonetics, its practical applications, and speech research. A curriculum outline detailing interactive experiences that support the educational goals of the course will be presented. Course units presenting basic topics in acoustics (resonance, filtering) and more advanced topics in speech science (vowel production and perception) will be available to illustrate the use of the course for classroom demonstration and independent study by students. Integrated laboratory tools allow students to perform acoustic analysis. Visual, auditory, and textural reference and background material is available to the user at all times.
