Index of Variation with Illustration Using Molecular Data

A new index of variation (I) is developed and demonstrated using molecular data. This index could be a substitute for the coefficient of variation (C) in unclear situations like the cases V and IX in the Table 1. When it exists, the index I attain value in [0, 1] regardless of the underlying distribution for the data is. On the contrary, C might be well outside of (0, 1) again depending on the chosen distribution for the data. This advantage of I over C is demonstrated in this article with the molecular data.
