Qualitative analysis and simulation of open source software evolution
Neil Smith · 2004
Successful modeling and simulation of growth trends and other attributes can reveal the main drivers of software evolution. We report on the application of qualitative abstraction techniques to the study of growth trends of 26 of open source software (OSS) systems. We discuss the similarities and differences observed when these are compared to the growth trend of five commercial systems. It also discusses the validity of previously developed qualitative simulation models in the OSS domain.
