An Examination of the Resolution of Structure Clashes by Structure Inversion

M. Stubbs · The Computer Journal · 1984

The objective of structure inversion is to provide a tool for resolving structure clashes, which exploits rather than limits the use of procedures or structured code in any part of a computer program. This paper uses the structural relationships of procedures to examine the operation of a complete program or function within a program, and to analyse structure inversion. The effects of inverting several structures are demonstrated and used to derive the necessary conditions for resolving a structure clash. The results of this analysis are applicable both by programmers designing and hand coding programs, and by applications generation systems needing to merge separately generated programs which share the same data and run frequency.
