There are vast quantities of material written concerning the motivational factors relating to ‘hackers’. However, this body of knowledge has been allowed to stand alone, and not used to determine how to deter such people. The vast majority of computer abuse surveys make recommendations relating to physical and logical barriers, the objective of which is to prevent the ‘hacker’ from getting into the equipment in the first place.
