Using Local Marketing Characteristics to Customize the Conspectus for Fiction Assessment

Bums Davis · Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship · 1998

There are several possible ways to assess fiction, biography, and biographical fiction collections using accepted conspectus methods. This article recommends that the choice of method be guided by the meaningful collection groupings that are used by a local library to provide access to its resources. Since these arrangements are usually related to the ways customers use the library and to the strategies employed by the library to market its collection, they suggest ways to organize assessment data and relate the data to acquisitions activities. WLN conspectus software flexibility enables librarians to produce customized assessment results by using technique and tool adaptions based on local collection arrangement.
