In archaeological survey, geophysical prospecting is a turning point among the methods of archaeological study, after the gathering of primary data and the specific means that are archaeological excavations. Several sites have been studied in the purpose of archaeological evaluation through geophysics and local mechanical tests with an auger or a dynamic penetrometer or a spade. Mechanical data are integrated with the geophysical ones for two kinds of processes. The first kind is the checking of anomalies by mechanical tests after the completion of the geophysical study : on a potters workshop (susceptibility survey and auger boring), on a prehistorical site (resistivity pseudo-section and penetration testing) and on a gallo-roman she (resistivity survey and spade test). The second kind corresponds to mechanical tests that have been carried out before or independently of the geophysical survey, on a prehistorical site (penetration tests and resistivity maps at different investigation depths) and on a gallo-roman site (auger borings and resistivity map). Methodological conclusions are inferred from these experiments.
