Timely and fault-tolerant data access from broadcast disks

Sanjoy Baruah, Azer Bestavros · 1997

A combination of AIDA (the Adaptive Information Dispersal Algorithm) and pinwheel scheduling is proposed aa a solution to the problem of designing data access strategies in environments where (i) the data is frequently updated at a server, and needs to be made available to clients upon demand, (ii) the server-to-client bandwidth fax exceeds the bandwidth from any individual client back to the server, and (iii) timely retrieval of data is essential, even in the presence of transmission or other errors.* This work ~ been partially lupported by the NSF (grants CCR-9308344 and CCFt-9596282).Pmnimon to make digital/hard ,~,pia of all or part ofthi= material fro.permnal or dammom me is granted ~thom f~ providecl that the ¢op/a arc not made o¢ db;Iributcd for profit or cmrancrcial advantage, the copy.riles ao6¢=, the ti~tJe orrd.~publi~ and iu d~ appear, and no(ic= given thai c°PYtdl~hi k bY Pcmfimion oftl~ ACM, Inc.To copy olhczwise, Io republish.!o poJl on serveTm or to r~listribute to ikl& mquir~ specific pcrnwion and/or f~ DART '96 Rocltvills MD.USA
