Building CORBA applications with an object database system

Enterprise Management System (EMS) is a suite of CORBA-based applications and services that we developed for system management in an enterprise environment. EMS uses Objectivity/DB, an object database management product, as the starting point for its persistent storage management. This paper discusses our experiences using Objectivity/DB to build our CORBA-based EMS applications and services. It discusses both the approach and design we chose and the issues and limitations we encountered, especially in using an object database system in distributed applications, integrating it in a CORBA environment, and distributing/deploying applications based on such a system. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
